As the 1920s continued to roar, and the game continued to grow in popularity, golf club manufactures (Spalding, MacGregor, Tom Stewart and George Nicoll to name a few) began offering six or seven irons that matched in a set. Our matched set of Precision hickory-shafted irons is modeled from an original 7-piece set of George Nicoll irons. The set includes a Mid Iron, Mid Mashie, Mashie Iron, Mashie, Pitching Mashie, Mashie Niblick, and Niblick (see table below). The face scoring matches the Nicoll set with dot punches giving the irons the authentic look and playability you expect from Louisville Golf. The irons come with a solid hickory shaft turned in Louisville, KY to our exacting specifications. At the time of assembly each shaft is graded, inspected, and finally frequency matched for consistent performance.

These irons are duplicates of an original set of Stewart irons produced late in the hickory era.  They are one of the most playable irons of the hickory era. The weight in the head is concentrated low and in the sole. This helps to more easily launch the ball. The soles are wider which prevents the head from digging in. This is really important on today’s softer golf courses, allowing for a margin of error when striking the ball.  At the time of assembly each shaft is graded, inspected, and finally frequency matched for consistent performance.

A well struck shot should stimulate and reward the sensory receptors of the player.  We set out to create a eye pleasing blade to match the butter soft feel, control, and shot shaping capability of persimmon woods.  In order to achieve this objective, we relied on decades of tradition to design the shape, balance, and flow of the address profile.  Next, we designed a clean simple contemporary weight mass to position the center of gravity to assist in trajectory control and shot shaping.  Finally the most important aspect was left to achieve, feel.  304 Stainless Steel was selected for its velvety soft attributes we desired in feel.
