T. Stewart Series | Hickory Iron Set
-21 in stock
These irons are duplicates of an original set of Stewart irons produced late in the hickory era. They are one of the most playable irons of the hickory era. The weight in the head is concentrated low and in the sole. This helps to more easily launch the ball. The soles are wider which prevents the head from digging in. This is really important on today’s softer golf courses, allowing for a margin of error when striking the ball. At the time of assembly each shaft is graded, inspected, and finally frequency matched for consistent performance.
The Precision Hickory Tournament Set is the only full hickory set we offer in both right hand and left hand. This set of iron is modeled after an original set of George Nicoll irons. The face scoring matches the Nicolls set with dot punches giving the irons the authentic look and the playability you can expect from any Louisville Golf club.
The idea of selling a matching set of irons began in the 1920s; before that time, even though groups of four or five irons resembling each other were available, the golfer usually assembled a set of irons by selecting individual clubs based on personal preference, often from various makers. The Precision Hickory Tournament Set includes 3 woods of your choice, a Mid Iron, Mid Mashie, Mashie Iron, Mashie, Pitching Mashie, Mashie Niblick, Niblick, and the 56° Stewart Maiden Niblick.
Each shaft is graded, inspected, and finally frequency matched for consistent performance.
The idea of selling a matching set of irons began in the 1920s; before that time, even though groups of four or five irons resembling each other were available, the golfer usually assembled a set of irons by selecting individual clubs based on personal preference, often from various makers.
As the 1920s continued to roar, and the game continued to grow in popularity, golf club manufactures (Spalding, MacGregor, Tom Stewart and George Nicoll to name a few) began offering six or seven irons that matched in a set. These matched sets gained momentum with golfers and golf companies alike, and eventually became the numbered sets of irons golfers utilize today.
Our matched set of Precision hickory-shafted irons is modeled from an original 7-piece set of George Nicoll irons. The set includes a Mid Iron, Mid Mashie, Mashie Iron, Mashie, Pitching Mashie, Mashie Niblick, and Niblick (see table below). The face scoring matches the Nicoll set with dot punches giving the irons the authentic look and playability you expect from Louisville Golf. The irons come with a solid hickory shaft turned in Louisville, KY to our exacting specifications. At the time of assembly each shaft is graded, inspected, and finally frequency matched for consistent performance.
A well struck shot should stimulate and reward the sensory receptors of the player. We set out to create a eye pleasing blade to match the butter soft feel, control, and shot shaping capability of persimmon woods. In order to achieve this objective, we relied on decades of tradition to design the shape, balance, and flow of the address profile. Next, we designed a clean simple contemporary weight mass to position the center of gravity to assist in trajectory control and shot shaping. Finally the most important aspect was left to achieve, feel. 304 Stainless Steel was selected for its velvety soft attributes we desired in feel.

In 1903 Willie Dunn Jr. received a patent for one of the first center shafted putters. This putter was not only unique because it was center shafted, but the material it was made from was one of the first thermoplastics – Pyralin. According to the patent the “pyralin cushions the shock will adding power to the shot.
The original Kempshall putters are rare and collectible. A black one sold at Sotheby’s auction for $1625. The white one, which Sotheby’s says only around 5 are known to exist, sold for $2000.
Louisville Golf has chosen the Kempshall putter to be the first product in its Collectors Series. Only 100 of each color Kempshall will be made. Each putter will be stamped with its number (001 of 100, 002 of 100, etc.) and will be accompanied with a certificate of Authenticity.
The replica Kempshall putter is made from a more modern thermoplastic since pyraline is no longer available. You will see in the Louisville Golf Kempshall that we paid every attention to detail to replicate the original Kempshall as close as possible: the cross hatch scoring on the brass face, the contrasting alignment mark, the weight plugs in the back of the head, the solid hickory shaft and the hand wrapped leather grip.
Like all Louisville Golf putters the Kempshall is completely playable. This center shafted, face balanced putter can complete with any modern putter.

This club looks and plays like a modern day hybrid. If I had to carry only one fairway wood in my bag this would be the one. Excellent replacement for the mid-iron.
